On the 12th August 1948, 8 founder members, each put a £1 into a kitty to form
Portsmouth & District Angling Society. The founders included Ron Snook, who held
office until he passed away in September 2003, Bert Pascoe who was club
secretary for 25 years, Trevor Pascoe and Harry Oakshott. Sir Jocelyn Lucas Bart
M.P for the city, accepted an invitation to be president of the newly formed
society, which enabled them to become affiliated to the Central Association of
Angling clubs. This gave the new members stretches of the rivers, Arun and Mole
to fish. PDAS further invited prominant councillors to be Vice Presidents, they
accepted, which enabled the society to obtain more waters. The numbers grew,
giving plenty of variation for the members to fish.
